Hiking Haine's Bluff

View from peak of Haine's Bluff on Great Harbour Cay.

The weather has finally cleared from Tropical Storm Alberto, with blue skies and sunlit seas that have given us the chance to go exploring again. Brenda discovered Haine's Bluff a few days ago, and we planned a day to check it out. It's amazing.

View facing south east. The pristine shoreline stretches for miles.

The bluff is a series of sand dunes that rise about 70 feet, providing spectacular 360 degree views of the island and the Atlantic ocean. At low tide, we kayaked to the west facing beach and hiked along a path marked by small rock cairns.

After scrambling up the side of the bluff, we were awestruck by the views.

Even I couldn't find anything to say :) and words cannot capture the power of that place.

Earlier in the day, we took Newt up Shark Creek at high tide. The creek winds through mangrove forests and opens to a wide, shallow tidal basin that is full of sea turtles, juvenile sharks, rays, and fish. We lost count of the sea turtles swimming in the creek. At least thirty. And lots of fish.
