Trip to town

Settlement at Little Grand Cay.
After spending a few idyllic days exploring the amazing cays and inlets around the Sand Cay anchorage near Grand Cay (more on that later), we decided it was time to take a trip to town. The nearby settlement of Little Grand Cay is about 3 miles from where we had anchored Pandion. When the wind dropped and we had flat seas, we took our dinghy Newt to town.

We had three goals: explore the town and meet some of the local Bahamians who lived there, provisioning (eggs and produce high on the shopping list), and topping off our dinghy fuel tanks. The residents of Little Grand Cay were very friendly and helpful, and we spent several hours walking the street and exploring the town.

Along the way, we met Wendall, who ran a small grocery store (with fresh eggs, potatoes, onions, and plantains for our galley), and we filled our tanks at Mad Max. School was in session, with youngsters running around in uniforms. The island was hosting a visit by several uniformed Bahamian officials, who had arrived on a Bahamas Customs vessel powered by three big outboards.

On the way back to Pandion, we stopped briefly to take a look at a sailboat that had been wrecked, most likely in Hurricane Matthew two years ago.
